My friend Arlene Chua (the best-dressed cookier at CookieCon) is the artist behind the beautiful cookies this month on the CookieCon calendar. Below is the touching story about what inspired her designs.
I was thrilled and honored to be asked to participate in the CookieCon 2019 Calendar. I knew right away that I wanted my entry to be based on the month of May, specifically so that I could pay homage to Mother’s Day. My mother was my inspiration for the cookies. I wanted to show the strong love and bond between a mom and her child.
You see, my journey to discovering decorated cookies started all because of my Mom. While cookies is my happy place now, it didn’t start out that way. After losing my mother to cancer, I went through a very dark period of my life. One night, feeling sad and unable to sleep, I saw a cookie decorating video on social media. It was almost midnight when I attempted to decorate my first cookie. I immediately loved it. I found it to be a therapeutic outlet for my grief. It amazes me how many people have found solace in cookie art. It was never just a cookie for me. I truly do believe in the phrase, “The Power of a Cookie.”
