McGoo U Online: December

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas!

It’s the time of year, when the world falls in love with cookies!  I believe this is the season when many a cookier was born.  I imagine lots of us made Christmas cookies with moms and grandmas when we were younger or carefully built our gingerbread houses, and it looks like a lot of us have stayed in touch with or have re-awakened our inner cookie decorating child!  And heck! some of you literally are kids.  I know several McGoobers who are barely in the double digits and are creating beautiful cookies.  It is so inspiring!

Tis’ the season and I have so many occasions coming up that call for cookies; but honestly, what event wouldn’t be better with cookies?  Am I right?  Christmas parties, neighbor gifts, caroling treats, bunco night, cookie exchange… Yikes!  I have one of those on Thursday!

Well, this month’s McGoo U is here to help!  I made a couple winter wonderland designs that are super simple but become magical with a little bling.  In fact, I just decided:  these are the cookies I’ll make for the exchange!  Then in class we delve deeper in the to dimension and design of my Santa face cookie.  Honestly, once you get down the dimension and painting eyes it goes really quick, and you could be a veritable Santa cookie factory… or you could be sane and save that design for a special occasion.  Or a special someone.  Like the big guy himself!  Imagine when he comes down the chimney and sees a plate with cookies of himself.  It will definitely get you on the nice list.  But… would that be a form of cannibalism?  Santa eating a Santa cookie?  The thing I love about this cookie is that he will look a little different every time you make him.  You know how I know?  Because I WAS a Santa cookie making factory once!

Visiting guest cookier Teri Lewis of Tweets Cookie Connection continues the sparkle theme in the Expert Lab!  I met Teri at the first CookieCon and I fell in love with her artistry, her designs, and HER!  If you have gone to CookieCon or have seen pictures of the Sugar Show, you have admired her work.  She has won or placed in several categories every year and it is no wonder!  Her cookies are works of art.  She brings her magic to the Expert Lab and shows us how to make her dazzling elf cookie.

I get to see Teri at every CookieCon, but it is definitely not often enough for my liking.  Get to know my fabulous friend in Mixing it Up!  She talks about how she discovered her love of decorating and how she shares that love in her work with Global Down Syndrome Foundation and team building classes.  She is all about family and we enjoy a surprise appearance by her wonderful mom who is her biggest supporter and partner in crime: Bev.

Both of these ladies are so dear to me and contrary to how it looks in the video, I am not an overly ginormous person. ha!  These two petite dynamos are crazy talented and inspiring in so many more ways than cookies and I am beyond thrilled that I got to catch up with them between filming.

As a McGoo U curriculum counselor and professor I’m excited to announce I’ve added a course this winter term.  This new class is called Smart Cookie and will be a great addition to our schedule of classes.

Whether you are a home baker, a hobbyist, or a business cookier, this class can help you cookie smarter.  Some months this short segment will focus on how to simplify a cookie design for bigger orders (December).  In upcoming months (January) it will be conversations with the fantastically brilliant accountant, author, and business consultant Marquita Miller.  She breaks down the business side of things and important information we need to know if we are selling cookies.

After School we have a special Christmas guest visit McGoo U kitchen and create with us.  I will give you a few clues:  His favorite foods are candy, candy canes, candy corns, and syrup!  If you guessed Mr. Narwhal you are wrong, but close.  Buddy the Elf creates a simple, edible Christmas craft that can be fun for the whole family and he helps get us into the Christmas spirit and leads us all in a sugar rush.

As always we finish out our day of learning and fun with an impromptu design using the Extra Frosting from class.

I hope you have the merriest of Christmases!  I hope it is magical and sparkles and shines!  There are so many opportunities all around us to make someone’s day, month, Christmas, Hanukkah, or Kwanza shine brighter.  Every Thanksgiving we make a list of fun things we want to do in December: from ice skating to movie nights and the kids always think of ways we can use our time and talents to help others.  Those moments were we combine our efforts as a family to bring cheer to others are some of our favorite memories of Christmastime.  I guarantee if you find a way, big or small, to bring cheer to someone this month, you will get in the spirit of the season!

and pssst!  If you don’t have a McGoo subscription, it is a great time to get one for two reasons:

  1. McGoo U subscriptions are 30% off right now!
  2. In a little over a week it is 12 days until Christmas and we are going to count it down with some UNBELIEVABLE prizes for McGoo U subscribers.  You will NOT want to miss this!!!

I would love to see what you created using this month’s tutorials.  Remember YOU can earn your varsity letter by sharing your McGoo U inspired creations using the hashtag #mcgoou on Instagram, Twitter, & Facebook.
